Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Direction, Leadership and Portfolio Growth (25%):

- Programme Management and Coordination (25%):

- Guide country offices on climate-related health impacts (e.g., vector-borne diseases, malnutrition)
- Support implementation of climate-informed surveillance and cross-sector preparedness
- Oversee multi-country health security initiatives, ensuring donor compliance and robust monitoring
- Coordinate the Regional Laboratory program, managing quality assurance and staff capacity building
- Assess regional diagnostic priorities with global and national stakeholders
- Business Development (30%):
- Ensure program sustainability and secure funding through Amref’s Business Development Unit
- Identify funding opportunities and lead proposal writing and donor negotiations
- Develop strategies to enhance program visibility and impact
- Research, Learning and Innovation (10%):
- Conduct operational and scientific research, establish partnerships, and publish papers
- Collaborate with academic institutions on predictive analytics for climate-sensitive diseases
- Foster learning across projects and develop climate and health knowledge products

Qualifications and Skills
- Education: Advanced degree (PhD or Master’s) in Public Health, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Veterinary Medicine, or related field
- Experience: Minimum 7 years of progressive leadership in One Health or climate and health programming in Africa; experience designing and managing large-scale, donor-funded programs
- Preferred: Peer-reviewed publications, influence on national/regional One Health strategies, familiarity with laboratory systems, AMR, and integrated surveillance
- Skills:
- Strategic thinking and ability to translate ideas into actionable plans
- Strong interpersonal and team management skills
- High integrity, organizational skills, and deadline adherence
- Excellent relationship management, advocacy, and communication skills
- Proficiency in program management and grant oversight
- Fluency in English (French is an added advantage)
