Introduction
Centre for Ecosystem Restoration-Kenya (CER-K), a Kenyan non-profit restoring highland/savannah/coastal ecosystems through action-oriented research and evidence-based restoration, in partnership with Earth Rover Program (ERP) developing low-cost geophysical soil monitoring tools, is recruiting a Communications & Networks Lead to guide external communications, strengthen stakeholder/farmer networks, and coordinate the joint ERP-CER-K Kenya/East Africa project launch in April/May 2026.
Requiring 2–4 years experience in agriculture/agroforestry/ag-tech/climate/environment communications/community engagement, strong PR/communications background, understanding Kenyan/East African agricultural/forestry landscape, and ability translate scientific concepts accessibly, this full-time on-site role demands travel willingness and occasional flexible hours. Role Overview
The Communications & Networks Lead supports both CER-K and ERP by guiding external communications, strengthening stakeholder/farmer networks, and coordinating the joint ERP-CER-K launch in 2026. The role blends communications, community engagement, and network building to ensure restoration/soil-health work is well understood/connected.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead Communications for ERP-CER-K Kenya/East Africa Project Launch
- Coordinate all communications for April/May 2026 launch.
- Collaborate Enwan Media messaging/press releases/digital materials.
- Support event planning/stakeholder engagement.
- Ensure content resonates Kenyan farmers/agencies/partners.
- Provide local context briefs (scientific writing by CER-K scientists).
2. Build & Strengthen Field/Partner Networks
- Maintain/expand networks farmers/cooperatives/NGOs/research partners.
- Share updates/gather field feedback.
- Work hub scientists field sampling coordination (non-technical).
- Represent CER-K/ERP outreach visits.
3. Support CER-K Communications
- Provide stories/updates/field insights digital channels.
- Ensure CER-K messaging consistency projects.
- Contribute content direction.
- Input website updates (not management).
4. Regional Engagement Roadmap
- Identify key contacts/opportunities East African expansion.
- Provide high-level engagement outline (not full strategy).
5. Educational & Community Engagement Support
- Organize workshops/field days/school/community sessions.
- Coordinate logistics/communications hub educators.
6. Reporting & Coordination
- Weekly coordination calls CER-K/ERP teams.
- Coordinate ERP communications/science teams.
- Quarterly communications/engagement updates.
- Basic monitoring outreach/partner engagement.
- Occasional meetings ERP global teams outside regular hours.
Candidate Profile
- 2-4 years experience communicating agriculture/agroforestry/ag-tech/climate/environment or community engagement.
- 2-4 years engaging farmers/stakeholders/networks, coordinating events, executing external communications agriculture/environmental work.
- Strong background Communications/Public Relations.
- Strong interest/understanding Kenyan/East African agricultural/forestry landscape/ecology.
- Proven ability translate scientific concepts accessible language.
- Willingness travel Kenya/occasionally region.
Desirable
- Knowledge agroforestry/soil health/restoration/ecology.
- Experience regional/international scientific teams shaping public-facing messages.
