Introduction

Rethinking Economics International, a global network of students/academics/professionals building better economics in society/classroom (started 2012 student movement), is recruiting a Communications Lead (4 days/week – open job share) to lead external communications, maintain channels, support new systems (membership launch/governance changes), and rollout new brand/website in pivotal 2026.

Reporting Associate Director, this remote role (specific countries/UTC zones) demands creativity/organisation/leadership representing RE voice across social media/newsletters/website/press/email journeys. Ideal for passionate communicators interested new/pluralist economics, social media trends, accessible content, and remote team ownership. Youth/female/PwD/marginalized encouraged. Strong economics/campaigning/movement background advantage.

Rethinking Economics (RE) international network students/academics/professionals building better economics society/classroom. Started 2012 student movement, grown youth movement relearning/rethinking/rebuilding economics.

RE fosters culture curiosity/care/courage, challenging mainstream economics addressing climate/inequality. Remote team supports global network campaigns/training/events.


Responsibilities

Purpose: Lead external communications Rethinking Economics.

Main Areas

  • Manage communications@rethinkeconomics.org inbox.
  • Create/schedule content REI social media (Twitter/YouTube/Facebook/Instagram/LinkedIn)/day-to-day management.
  • Source content/send monthly newsletter.
  • Produce/publish/review website content (REI blog).
  • Liaison/recruit students/writers/designers/video editors content creation.
  • Oversee email journeys/write copy new membership offer.
  • Own RE relationships press.
  • Support creation/delivery REI communications strategy.
  • Support rollout new brand/redevelopment rethinkeconomics.org website.

Terms & Conditions

Reporting To: Associate Director
Starting Salary: £31,700–£33,930 pro rata (4 days: £25,360–£27,144). 5% increase April 2026. Fair pay review (global pay/4-day week potential) likely April 2027. Non-negotiable experience-based; re-negotiate post-probation.
Start Date: As soon as possible
Contract Type: Fixed-term (likely permanent after first year)
Hours: 4 days/week, 7 hours/day (unpaid lunch hour). Flexible; Tuesday required. Evening/weekend occasional (TOIL).
Location: Remote. Associated offices Manchester (UK)/Johannesburg (South Africa)/Berlin (Germany)/Copenhagen (Denmark). Must UTC +4/-4 & specific countries (including Kenya/Uganda/Tanzania/Rwanda/Nigeria/South Africa/Germany/UK/etc. – full list role). Demonstrate fully remote work ability.
Travel: Reimbursed work-related (not commuting).
