Key Responsibilities
As an Islamic Religious Education (IRE) Teacher at KISC, your responsibilities will include:
Instructional Delivery:
- Prepare and deliver engaging IRE lessons in line with CBC strands and sub-strands
- Develop daily and termly lesson plans aligned with the Schemes of Work
- Deliver lessons to students in Upper Primary (Grades 4–6) and Junior Secondary School (Grades 7–9)
- Employ appropriate instructional strategies, including inquiry-based learning, storytelling, and value-driven role plays
- Integrate technology and audio-visual aids to enrich lesson delivery where possible
Assessment and Reporting:
- Create and administer formative and summative assessments to monitor learner progress
- Maintain accurate records of learner performance, including individualized learner reports and portfolios
- Prepare and present comprehensive end-of-term learner progress reports
- Provide meaningful feedback to both learners and parents
Faith Development & Values Education:
- Guide learners in understanding and applying Islamic moral teachings in real-life contexts
- Teach Qur’an recitation (Tajweed), memorization, and basic interpretation (Tafsir)
- Organize and oversee Islamic religious events and special prayers during Ramadhan, Idd, and Islamic calendar events
- Mentor learners on Islamic etiquette (Adab and Akhlaq)
School Engagement and Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with other subject teachers and class coordinators
- Participate in weekly departmental meetings, academic clinics, and school open days
- Communicate with parents during academic clinics, parent-teacher meetings, and events
- Support school initiatives, including community service projects
- Contribute to whole-school development, including co-curricular participation
Professional Conduct & Development:
- Maintain high standards of personal conduct and professionalism
- Attend internal teacher professional development workshops
- Stay updated with changes in IRE curriculum, CBC policy shifts, and teaching innovations
Qualifications and Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this teaching opportunity, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Academic & Professional Qualifications:
- A Bachelor of Education (Arts) with specialization in Islamic Religious Education or related field
- OR a Bachelor’s Degree in Islamic Studies plus Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
- Additional qualifications in Arabic Language or Qur’anic Studies are an added advantage
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience teaching IRE in a CBC or 8-4-4 curriculum institution
- Experience handling Upper Primary and/or Junior Secondary learners
- Familiarity with KNEC assessment structure, performance benchmarks, and CBC assessment tools
Licensing and Registration:
- Valid Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Number
Key Skills and Attributes
- Strong Islamic faith foundation with ability to serve as a role model for learners
- Excellent command of spoken and written English and Kiswahili
- Ability to teach and recite the Qur’an with Tajweed
- Confidence in using learning management systems or tech tools (Google Classroom, Zoom, etc.)
- Strong classroom management and lesson differentiation skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- A passion for child-centered teaching and inclusive pedagogy
- Organizational and time management skills
