Introduction
A rare and prestigious opportunity now opens for Kenyan artists through one of the most creatively unique jobs in Kenya Nairobi this year. The German Embassy Nairobi, in collaboration with the German Speaking Evangelical-Lutheran Congregation (GSELC), has launched a high-profile street art competition under the theme “Ushirikiano: Pamoja na Tofauti” (Cooperation: Together with Differences).
The competition seeks to redesign the outer perimeter wall of the German Embassy’s compound along Riverside Drive, Nairobi. Selected artists will have the honor of visually representing the long-standing partnership and vibrant cultural relations between Germany and Kenya through a permanent public mural installation.
This exceptional project offers not only significant financial compensation but also an international platform to showcase artistic mastery at the heart of diplomatic and cultural exchange in Kenya’s capital city.

About The Organizers
German Embassy Nairobi:
The German Embassy in Nairobi serves as the official diplomatic mission representing Germany’s interests in Kenya. As the very first country to recognize Kenya’s independence in 1963, Germany has nurtured rich bilateral relations encompassing development cooperation, trade, education, cultural exchange, and environmental partnerships. The Embassy is housed on Riverside Drive within a building named after Ludwig Krapf, the renowned German missionary who created the first Swahili grammar and dictionary.
The German Embassy plays a pivotal role in facilitating German-Kenyan collaboration in areas such as climate action, peacekeeping, education, and scientific exchange. The art competition symbolizes Germany’s ongoing commitment to promoting intercultural dialogue through creative expression.
German Speaking Evangelical-Lutheran Congregation (GSELC):
The German Church has been present in Kenya since the 1960s, serving as both a religious sanctuary and community hub for German expatriates and multicultural congregants. Its partnership with the Embassy reflects shared values of hospitality, inclusion, and intercultural engagement. With beautiful gardens and a distinguished church hall, the GSELC compound offers an oasis for reflection, worship, and intercultural fellowship in Nairobi.
Through its extensive community outreach – including collaborations with the Kenya Evangelical Lutheran Church (KELC) and partnerships in Kayole, Kibera, and other regions – GSELC plays a crucial role in expanding German-Kenyan relations at the grassroots level.
