In Kakamega County, we are implementing the flagship Circular Economy for Household Organic Waste (CE4HOW) project—an ambitious initiative that strives to:

Divert organic waste from landfills and uncontrolled dumpsites.
Create dignified, decent, and safe NGO jobs in Kenya for informal waste pickers.
Reduce greenhouse-gas emissions and improve soil fertility through regenerative agriculture.
Promote gender-responsive approaches so women and marginalised groups share equitably in the benefits.

Key Responsibilities

Gender & Inclusion Mainstreaming

Embed gender-equity principles within all CE4HOW work plans, budgets, and monitoring frameworks, ensuring alignment with Kenya’s Gender Policy and global best practice for NGO jobs in Kenya.
Conduct participatory gender analyses that identify barriers faced by female and male waste workers, producing actionable insights to inform project adaptation.
Track gender-disaggregated indicators—earnings, decision-making power, access to protective equipment—so our data tells the full story of inclusive progress in NGO jobs in Kenya.

Capacity Building & Coaching

Design and facilitate training modules on Gender Action Learning Systems (GALS), safeguarding, and rights-based advocacy for staff, local government, and 300+ informal waste pickers.
Mentor community facilitators to deliver peer-led workshops that amplify women’s voices in cooperative governance and spur equitable income-sharing.
Support organisational development of partner co-operatives—strengthening leadership skills, financial literacy, and policy-engagement capacity to expand dignified NGO jobs in Kenya.

Stakeholder Engagement & Partnership Management

Forge collaborative relationships with county departments, local civil-society networks, and private-sector recyclers to build a united front for inclusive waste reform.
Represent the CE4HOW project in county-level circular-economy fora, ensuring gender considerations become a non-negotiable element in emerging waste policies and in the wider discourse on NGO jobs in Kenya.

Advocacy & Policy Influence

Draft policy briefs and position statements that spotlight gendered impacts within waste systems, thereby elevating the standards of NGO jobs in Kenya across the sector.

Communications & Knowledge Sharing

Project Management & Reporting

Contribute to quarterly work-planning, risk registers, and adaptive-management reviews that keep the CE4HOW initiative on track and gender-responsive.
Prepare high-quality narrative reports and budget forecasts for institutional donors, highlighting milestones achieved—including newly created NGO jobs in Kenya and gender-disaggregated benefits.
Advance new funding proposals by weaving gender and advocacy components into scalable circular-economy concepts for Kenya’s secondary cities.

Qualifications and Skills

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Sociology, Rural Development, Social Work, or a related discipline.
Minimum four (4) years’ professional experience—of which at least three (3) focus squarely on gender integration within development or humanitarian programming, preferably inside dynamic NGO jobs in Kenya.
Demonstrated mastery of gender-analysis tools, advocacy strategies, and participatory facilitation methods.
Proven ability to translate gender concepts into concrete actions and measurable outcomes in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
Superior written and oral communication skills in English; fluency in Kiswahili essential.

Desired Skills & Experience

Practical familiarity with Gender Action Learning Systems (GALS) and community-driven accountability mechanisms.
Insight into the informal waste sector, cooperative business models, and private-sector engagement in Kenya’s circular-economy landscape.
