Brief Overview:
The School Nurse will provide daily medical care, first aid, health monitoring, and emergency response services while promoting healthy habits, emotional well-being, and a safe school environment for all learners.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily medical care and first aid to learners and staff.
- Support children with ongoing health needs and chronic conditions.
- Maintain accurate, confidential health records for students.
- Respond calmly and effectively to medical emergencies and injuries.
- Promote healthy habits, hygiene, and wellness education within the school community.
- Support learners’ emotional well-being and safeguarding needs.
- Work closely with teachers, parents, and school leadership to ensure learner safety and care.
Requirements for Appointment / Qualifications
- Registered Nurse qualification — Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (e.g., Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse (KRCHN) or BSc Nursing) from an accredited institution.
- Valid practicing license issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), First Aid, and CPR.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ hands-on clinical nursing experience.
- Previous experience working with children, particularly in a school or paediatric setting, is highly preferred.
- Strong communication skills for engagement with students, parents, teachers, and healthcare professionals.
- Strong child health knowledge including growth stages, common childhood illnesses, vaccination schedules, and school health needs.
- Emergency preparedness with calm and effective decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage confidential health records accurately.
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a child-centred approach to care.
