Key Responsibilities
As a Yard Manager, you will assume end-to-end responsibility for the yard’s performance, from team management to process optimization and regulatory compliance. Your key duties will include:
Supervisory & Leadership Functions
- Lead and direct the Yard Supervisors to ensure all operations run smoothly, efficiently, and within defined service parameters.
- Evaluate staff performance regularly and initiate improvement plans where necessary to enhance team productivity.
- Design and deliver training programs to upskill the yard team on best practices in safety, inspection, and inventory management.
- Foster a positive work culture that emphasizes accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence.
- Provide mentorship and performance coaching to junior supervisors and yard personnel.
Yard Operations & Workflow Optimization
- Oversee all tyre-related activities, including inspection, sorting, labeling, storage, and dispatch to ensure consistency and compliance.
- Implement workflow improvements to minimize bottlenecks and improve turnaround times on tyre repairs and retreading.
- Ensure that the yard layout promotes efficient navigation, safety, and accessibility of stored inventory.
- Monitor daily operations and resolve any workflow disruptions with agility and professionalism.
- Report on productivity metrics, operational disruptions, and recovery strategies to senior leadership.
Inventory & Stock Management
- Track all tyre inventory movements using digital or manual systems to maintain an accurate record of stock levels.
- Implement stock control mechanisms to reduce shrinkage, avoid overstocking or stockouts, and ensure timely replenishments.
- Coordinate with the procurement department to forecast tyre demand based on usage trends and operational schedules.
- Maintain comprehensive logs for tyre conditions, lifespan, repair cycles, and final disposal.
- Analyze inventory patterns to optimize usage and reduce holding costs without compromising operational readiness.
Safety, Compliance & Regulatory Functions
- Establish and enforce stringent safety guidelines to reduce the risk of workplace accidents and ensure employee wellbeing.
- Conduct scheduled and unscheduled safety audits and address any identified gaps promptly.
- Ensure that yard operations align with environmental sustainability standards and national waste management regulations.
- Maintain updated documentation for all safety incidents, regulatory inspections, and compliance reviews.
- Lead incident investigations and develop preventive strategies to avoid recurrence.
Communication & Interdepartmental Coordination
- Coordinate with logistics, procurement, finance, and operations departments to ensure alignment of goals and tasks.
- Submit periodic reports on operational efficiency, cost control, and staff productivity to the Tyre Management Services Team Leader.
- Serve as the primary contact person for yard-related escalations, updates, and strategic inputs.
- Manage digital and manual reporting systems for transparency and accountability in yard operations.
Qualifications and Skills
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain, Automotive Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in tyre management, warehousing, logistics, or yard operations.
- At least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity within a similar operational environment.
Preferred Skills and Competencies
- In-depth knowledge of tyre types, repair methods, retreading techniques, and disposal protocols.
- Strong leadership abilities with proven experience in staff development and team supervision.
- Operational expertise in inventory tracking tools, yard management software, and MS Excel.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in stock control and documentation.
- Safety-oriented mindset with a clear understanding of risk management and workplace safety.
