Objectives of the Internship

The Finance Internship is structured to achieve the following goals:

Key Responsibilities

The selected interns will support the Finance Department in the following functions:

1. Financial Documentation and Recordkeeping

  • Organize, file, and archive financial documentation including receipts, invoices, and payment records
  • Maintain orderly and accessible files both physically and digitally
  • Assist in reviewing financial documents for accuracy and completeness

2. Accounts Payable and Receivable

  • Record supplier invoices and customer receipts in the accounting system
  • Assist in processing payments to vendors and suppliers
  • Follow up on receivables and update aging reports
  • Reconcile vendor statements and handle queries

3. Bank Reconciliations

  • Compare bank statements with internal records and identify discrepancies
  • Assist in preparing monthly bank reconciliation reports for review
  • Flag unusual transactions and escalate appropriately

4. Data Entry and System Updates

  • Enter transactional data into accounting systems such as QuickBooks or Sage
  • Ensure data integrity and timeliness in ledger postings
  • Update spreadsheets, databases, and finance logs

5. Financial Reporting Support

  • Assist in preparation of management reports including P&L and cash flow summaries
  • Contribute to monthly close activities such as journal entries and accruals
  • Help review and prepare variance analysis reports

6. Internal Controls and Compliance

  • Participate in stock takes, asset tagging, and physical verifications
  • Help monitor petty cash usage and support audits of expense reports
  • Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and internal controls

7. Budget Monitoring

  • Track actual expenditures against budgets
  • Update internal budget trackers and flag inconsistencies
  • Support in preparing presentations and summaries for department reviews

Required Qualifications

The following qualifications are mandatory for consideration:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or currently pursuing final year) in:
    • Accounting
    • Finance
    • Business Administration (Finance or Accounting Option)
    • Economics or a closely related discipline
  • CPA Certification:
    • CPA Part I or Part II will be a strong added advantage
    • Candidates with CPA Part III will be prioritized for advanced projects
  • Demonstrable understanding of accounting principles including:
    • Double-entry bookkeeping
    • Debits and credits
    • Journal entries and ledgers
    • Trial balances and reconciliations
  • Competence in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly:
    • Excel (data entry, formatting, formulas, pivot tables)
    • Word (report writing and formatting)
