The Food and Land Use Coalition (FOLU) Kenya, hosted by GAIN alongside AGRA, SDSN, and WRI Africa, aims to transform Kenya’s food and land use systems to promote sustainable consumption, regenerative agriculture, biodiversity protection, reduction of food loss and waste, and inclusivity across gender and youth dimensions. FOLU Kenya drives evidence-based policy advocacy, supports national planning frameworks, and creates dynamic partnerships to catalyze food system transformations essential for Kenya’s sustainable future.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Establishment: Collaborate with local partners and FOLU core organizations to develop and coordinate impactful programs aligned with FOLU’s long-term food system transformation pathways.
- Strategic Partnerships: Engage actively with national and subnational governments, civil society, private sector stakeholders, and research institutions across multiple sectors including agriculture, nutrition, climate change, and biodiversity.
- Resource Mobilization: Develop compelling project concepts, proposals, and business cases in partnership with coalition members to attract and secure new funding streams.
- Policy Influence: Prepare policy briefs, white papers, and advocacy materials to influence policymakers and encourage greater investment in sustainable food systems and land use transitions.
- Coalition Coordination: Act as the key liaison among coalition partners, convening stakeholders and facilitating collaboration across diverse sectors and institutions.
- Project Management: Lead and coordinate multiple ongoing workstreams and activities, ensuring timely delivery of outcomes and outputs aligned with coalition goals.
- Capacity Building: Organize and facilitate training sessions and technical assistance for grantees, public institutions, and private sector partners on food systems and land use transformations.
- Event Management: Plan and execute partnership meetings, multi-stakeholder forums, and knowledge-sharing events that foster national dialogue and global connections.
- Research Translation: Convert complex research findings into actionable programmatic interventions, evidence-based recommendations, and advocacy content tailored for multiple stakeholders.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Ensure transparent financial tracking, donor reporting, and progress monitoring to meet both internal and external accountability requirements.
Qualifications and Skills
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Sustainable Development, Economics, Environmental Studies, Food Systems, Public Policy, or a related field.
- Project Management Experience: Proven ability to coordinate multiple complex projects with diverse stakeholders, managing timelines, deliverables, and reporting requirements.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Demonstrated experience managing high-level relationships across government, private sector, civil society, and international organizations.
- Resource Mobilization: Previous success in developing project proposals and mobilizing funding through donor and partner engagement.
- Policy Advocacy: Experience in developing policy briefs, influencing decision-makers, and building compelling cases for food systems reform.
- Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of food and land use systems, climate change adaptation, nutrition, and sustainability.
- Coalition Coordination: Experience working within a multi-stakeholder coalition or alliance with varying interests and mandates.
- Communication Abilities: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the capacity to produce high-quality briefing papers, reports, and presentations.
- Capacity Building: Proven ability to deliver training workshops and technical assistance to diverse partners.
- IT Skills: Proficiency in standard office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and virtual collaboration platforms.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced Education: Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Previous NGO or International Development Experience: Experience working in NGOs, UN agencies, or multinational development programs.
