Key Responsibilities of the Graphic Designer Consultant in Education

Design & Development

Design culturally relevant illustrations, infographics, and page layouts that transform curriculum content into visually compelling learning assets for senior-secondary students.
Develop master templates and brand guidelines to ensure uniform typography, colour schemes, and iconography across textbooks, teacher manuals, and digital slides.
Optimise readability and age-appropriate design elements, adjusting line spacing, contrast ratios, and font pairings for maximum accessibility.
Prototype interactive digital elements (e.g., drag-and-drop exercises, animated diagrams) for e-learning pilots on tablets and low-bandwidth platforms.

Production & Quality Assurance

Manage pre-press processes, including colour-profile preparation, bleed settings, dielines, and proof approvals in collaboration with print vendors.
Specify printing requirements—paper weight, finish, binding, and eco-friendly inks—to align with project sustainability targets.
Coordinate with local printers and logistics teams to guarantee on-time delivery of learning materials to remote island schools.

Capacity Building & Knowledge Transfer

Deliver structured training programmes for local graphic-design interns and education-ministry staff on Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva for Education, and open-source illustration tools.

Produce monthly progress reports detailing milestones achieved, risks identified, and mitigation strategies.
Collaborate with curriculum specialists, gender advisors, and disaster-risk experts to align visuals with pedagogical intent and inclusive messaging.

Qualifications and Skills

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Multimedia Arts, or closely related field (minimum).

Professional Experience

Minimum five (5) years’ hands-on design experience creating educational materials for varied audiences.
Documented portfolio showcasing excellence in layout design, typography, and culturally sensitive illustration.
Proven track record in both print and digital production—from offset lithography to responsive e-learning interfaces.
Experience in capacity-building or formal design training programmes, preferably in developing-country contexts.
Demonstrated cross-cultural communication skills, with sensitivity to indigenous knowledge systems and gender considerations.
Background in climate-change, gender, or disaster-risk projects (highly desirable).

Technical Proficiency

Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, XD (or Figma), plus familiarity with Canva and open-source vector tools.
Pre-press software such as Enfocus PitStop or Adobe Acrobat Preflight.
Basic understanding of web-accessibility (WCAG) and print-accessibility standards.
File-naming conventions, cloud-storage platforms (e.g., Google Drive, Dropbox), and DAM systems.
