ABOUT THE TEACHERS SERVICE COMMISSION (TSC)
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is an independent constitutional commission established under Article 237 of the Constitution of Kenya (2010). It is charged with the mandate of managing human resources for basic education in Kenya.
TSC oversees the recruitment, registration, deployment, and development of over 300,000 teachers across public primary and secondary schools in Kenya. The Commission ensures continuous improvement in education service delivery through capacity-building, curriculum compliance, and operational excellence.
With a presence in every Kenyan county and a central headquarters in Nairobi, TSC offers wide exposure and multi-level collaboration for professionals entering the education public sector. The internship program reflects the Commission’s commitment to empowering the next generation of leaders in public service.
INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES – AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION
The Teachers Service Commission is recruiting thirty (30) interns in the following professional areas:
1. Information Communication Technology (ICT)
- Number of Positions: 5
- Duration: 12 months
- Duties May Include:
- Supporting the maintenance of digital infrastructure and internal systems
- Troubleshooting software and hardware issues
- Assisting in cybersecurity and data backup activities
- Providing technical support to TSC staff across departments
- Participating in ICT system upgrades and documentation
2. Records Management
- Number of Positions: 10
- Duration: 12 months
- Duties May Include:
- Assisting with the digitization and classification of physical records
- Organizing and retrieving archived files
- Managing documents using Electronic Document and Records Management Systems (EDRMS)
- Ensuring records are maintained in compliance with public service policies
3. Human Resource Management & Development
- Number of Positions: 13
- Duration: 12 months
- Duties May Include:
- Supporting HR operations including recruitment, onboarding, and performance management
- Assisting in policy reviews and HR audits
- Filing and updating employee records
- Helping implement wellness and training programs
- Drafting correspondence and HR reports
4. Counsellor
- Number of Positions: 2
- Duration: 12 months
- Duties May Include:
- Providing emotional and psychological support to TSC staff and stakeholders
- Conducting individual and group counselling sessions
- Supporting conflict resolution and workplace wellness
- Promoting mental health awareness through training and campaigns
- Keeping confidential records and progress reports
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
To be considered for these internship opportunities, applicants must meet the following academic and personal qualifications:
General Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a Kenyan citizen aged between 21 and 35 years
- Should have graduated within the last 2–5 years from an accredited institution
- Must be unemployed and not have previously participated in an internship within the public sector
- Must provide a valid Certificate of Good Conduct at the time of engagement
- Must demonstrate professionalism, discipline, and integrity
Academic Qualifications per Category
a) Information Communication Technology (ICT)
- Bachelor’s degree in:
- Computer Science
- Information Communication Technology
- Software Engineering
- Informatics and Computer Science
- Computer Networks and Cybersecurity
- Business Information Technology
- Information Security and Forensics
- Or equivalent from a recognized institution
b) Records Management
- Bachelor’s degree in:
- Information Science
- Records and Archives Management
- Library Science
- Bachelor of Technology in Information Studies
- OR a Higher National Diploma in Records/Archives Management
- Knowledge of Electronic Document and Records Management Systems (EDRMS) is highly desirable
- Proficiency in Computerized Office Applications will be an added advantage
c) Human Resource Management & Development
- Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma in:
- Human Resource Management
- Or Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences/Business Administration plus a Diploma in HRM
d) Counselling
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in:
- Counselling Psychology
- Psychology (Counselling specialization)
- From a recognized institution

INTERNSHIP DURATION AND WORKSTATION
All internship placements are for a continuous 12-month period. Successful applicants may be posted to either TSC Headquarters in Nairobi or to any of the TSC County Offices across Kenya. Placement will depend on the needs of the Commission and area of specialization.
STIPEND AND INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS
- Each intern will receive a monthly stipend of KES 25,000
- Selected candidates must obtain the following insurance covers at their own cost:
- Personal Accident Insurance to cover workplace-related risks
- Medical Insurance Cover for the full internship duration
