Key Responsibilities

The Security Supervisor will support the Director of Security in managing and supervising the daily operations of the hotel’s safety and security team. The role encompasses supervision, training, reporting, emergency response, and ensuring compliance with internal and regulatory standards.

Security Oversight & Emergency Response:

  • Oversee all hotel security and safety operations in the absence of the Director of Security
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations such as fire alarms, smoke alerts, or security breaches
  • Conduct investigations into incidents and prepare formal reports for submission to management
  • Assist in escorting guests or team members to local authorities or hospitals as needed during emergencies
  • Support in fire drills planning and participate in establishing emergency response plans

Supervision & Deployment:

  • Supervise internal security teams, outsourced security guards, K-9 units, and police officers assigned to the property
  • Conduct shift briefings at the start of each duty period (15 minutes before handover)
  • Oversee proper deployment and rotation schedules of all security personnel
  • Perform routine patrols across hotel grounds and ensure documentation of any irregularities
  • Monitor the performance of team members and conduct regular appraisals

Operational Support:

  • Operate and monitor CCTV systems while ensuring confidential handling of all footage
  • Maintain key control systems and ensure compliance with key issuance and return procedures
  • Enforce physical security measures including securing entrances/exits and access points
  • Verify issuance of gate passes for items leaving the premises and ensure all logs are accurate
  • Maintain a daily shift report and ensure smooth communication between shifts through formal handovers

Safety Audits & Training:

  • Conduct regular audits on fire safety equipment and ensure all extinguishers, alarms, and signage are in optimal condition
  • Ensure all fire exits and corridors are unobstructed
  • Collaborate with OHS teams to coordinate regular health and safety trainings
  • Conduct safety workshops and ensure all team members are aware of hygiene, safety, and first aid policies
  • Maintain and review incident logs for trends or repeat risks and propose mitigation strategies

Administrative Duties:

  • Submit monthly reports on gate passes, safety audits, and incident summaries to hotel management
  • Maintain up-to-date records of shift rosters, patrol logs, visitor registers, and safety certifications
  • Ensure that any confidential or sensitive information received is appropriately forwarded and not disclosed
  • Participate in security planning for VIP events or high-profile guests

Skills, Knowledge, and Competencies

To succeed in this role, candidates must demonstrate:

Professional Skills:

  • Strong working knowledge of security operations in a hotel or hospitality environment
  • Proficiency in CCTV systems operation and basic troubleshooting
  • Solid understanding of health and safety standards, including fire prevention
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and motivate multi-disciplinary teams

Technical Competencies:

  • Computer literacy: Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience preparing formal reports and communicating with external authorities

Interpersonal Competencies:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English
  • Ability to remain calm, alert, and courteous in high-pressure or emergency situations
  • Strong interpersonal skills to liaise with guests, team members, and authorities professionally

Minimum Requirements

  • Kenyan citizen
  • At least 3 years of experience in a similar role, ideally in a hospitality setting
  • Fluency in English (additional language skills will be considered an asset)
  • Sound knowledge of Kenyan laws related to private security and hotel operations
  • Certification in Security Management or Hotel Security Training is a plus
  • Knowledge of first aid, CPR, and emergency response is preferred
